Our Review

This Helly Hansen men’s thermal baselayer top is a great item for keeping you warm in the cold weather, with a soft, comfortable feel. Helly’s ‘Warm fibre’ technology certainly a step above the HH Lifa Dry range, and will keep you warm in even the frostiest of days. It comes with a high neck, an added bonus for extra cold days, with the adjustable zip allowing you to adjust your temperature as your body warms up.

Its breathable material won’t have you sweating, and as it’s Helly Henson, it is exceptionally made and should last you a good couple of years. We’ve also given it a thorough testing in the Welsh mountains, and after a day of heavy exercise it remains odour free. I love the feel of the material – we’ve all had to endure a scratchy baselayer in our time, but the Merino wool is soft and incredibly comfortable, and I expect it to remain that way for a good amount of time. It has the quality and durability you would expect from a brand like Helly Hansen.

Overall, this baselayer is our recommended choice for exercising, be it biking, skiing, walking, snowboarding or running. It acts as a great base for underneath jackets, but can also be warn as a top in its own right. It will keep you warm, but is just the right amount of breathable to stop you overheating, with the material lifting sweat away.

It’s available from Extra Small up to Extra Extra Large, but consider buying a size above what you’re used to wearing, as it is a very snug fit, even for a base layer. It is also available in a range of 7 colours: black, ebony, black/tabasco, racer blue, espresso, night blue and olive night.
